We invite you to the exhibition of the works Leonid Totskyi – the classic of Ukrainian monumental art
An exhibition dedicated to the 91st anniversary of the birth of the Kyiv artist-restorer, a classic of Ukrainian monumental art, Leonid Totskyi (1932-2022), was opened in the Bakery of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”. All his creative life he was engaged in the study and restoration of monumental landmarks of Ukraine, worked with the interiors of the St. Sophia Cathedral and the St. Cyril’s Church, restored the frescoes of the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral, participated in the restoration of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the St. Michael’s Church of the Vydubytskyi Monastery, designed many modern public buildings.
The greatness and originality of ancient mosaics and frescoes he passed through his own soul, embodying in them a high artistic spirituality. He deeply researched and brilliantly executed their copies, some of which are presented in the exhibition. The precious mosaic became the master’s favorite artistic technique. He transferred its artistic wealth and mysterious spiritual meaning to modern Ukrainian art. In the mosaic, the artist-restorer created a whole gallery of portraits of Ukrainian cultural figures and a number of compositions based on Ukrainian folk paintings.
