We invite you to a musical tour of St. Andrew’s Church “Ascended to Heaven”

The Baroque era left many treasures in the national cultural heritage of Ukraine. A unique monument of those times is St. Andrew’s Church, which has risen above Kyiv-Podil for more than a quarter of a millennium, like an exquisite pearl in the necklace of Kyiv churches…

The musical tour “Ascended to Heaven”, which will take place on March 8, 2021 at 5 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Church, will immerse visitors in the world of spiritual art of the Baroque era. They will learn about the history of the construction of St. Andrew’s Church, will see the original artistic and decorative ensemble of the palace church of the mid – 18th century and learn about the peculiarities of its decoration from the story of Senior Researcher of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” Lina Yanchenko. The historical excursion will be complemented by outstanding spiritual musical works of the 18th – 19th centuries by G. Caccini, A. Vedel, M. Berezovskyi, D. Bortnianskyi and others performed by the ensemble of soloists “Blagovist” (Kyiv) under the direction of Honored Artist of Ukraine Tetiana Kumanovska.

 

Musical tour program:

  • musical greeting of the choir (M. Berezovskyi – “Rejoice, righteous”);
  • insight into the history of the construction of St. Andrew’s Church;
  • musical work (unknown author – Sticheron to St. Andrew the First-Called);
  • insight into the world of baroque in architecture and music, Kyrylo Rozumovskyi – the last hetman and an outstanding patron of Ukrainian culture;
  • concert part (unknown author – “Kirie eleison”, M. Diletskyi – liturgical songs, P. Turchaninov – “God is with us”, O. Arkhangelskyi – “God of Gods”, A. Vedel – “You are my fortress, Lord”).
  • art history excursion “The image of the Mother of God in the art of the 18th century: icon painting, sculpture, musical works”;
  • concert part (D. Bortnianskyi – “Honorably”, Y. Yatsynevych – “Virgin Mary, Rejoice”, G. Caccini – “Ave Maria”).
