A presentation of a modern mosaic dedicated to Anna Yaroslavna took place in St. Sophia Cathedral

On July 30, 2020, a solemn presentation of a modern mosaic dedicated to Anna Yaroslavna (1028/1032 – after 1075), Princess of Kyiv, daughter of the ruler of Kyivan Rus’ Yaroslav the Wise († 1054) took place in the St. Sophia Cathedral of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”. Around in 1050 she became Queen of France, wife of Henry I Capet († 1060). Queen Anne’s biography has inspired contemporary artists to create a mosaic in her honor…

From the creators of the project: In November 2019, a project metaphor from the company OLOS-Academy “Paris. Archetypes in art” took place. During the trip, the participants visited the Anne de Kyiv Center and The Royal Abbey of St. Vincent in the city of Senlis. To commemorate this trip, it was decided to make a memorable gift for St. Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv – a mosaic depicting the daughter of Yaroslav the Wise, Queen of France, thanks to which in the 30s of the 20th century French society stood up for St. Sophia and opposed its destruction by the Soviet authorities. This is the third joint project of OLOS-Academy together with its students – entrepreneurs of small and medium business in Ukraine: they previously participated in the restoration of the kiot in the choirs of St. Sophia Cathedral and were one of the patrons of the facsimile edition of the Reims Gospel. The mosaic was made by one of the participants of the project – the company “Stained Glass by Pyvovarov”, Sumy (master mosaicist Olexii Loboda).

During the development of the image of Anna and details of the mosaic decoration, scientific advice was provided by the staff of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”.
