The Minister of National Defense of Poland, Mariusz Błaszczak, visited the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”

During his stay in Ukraine on a working visit, the Minister of National Defense of Poland, Mariusz Błaszczak, visited a landmark of Ukrainian culture – the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”.

A tour at St. Sophia of Kyiv was organized for the distinguished guest, where he listened to a story about the great princes of Kyiv who built this majestic church, and about the significant role played by their descendants in the history of Europe. The minister observed the ancient graffiti of St. Sophia Cathedral, Oranta, the sarcophagus of Yaroslav the Wise, a prism with a modern image of Yaroslav, a model of ancient Kyiv. The guest was especially interested in the story about the history of the Holy Gate, consecrated by the Ecumenical Patriarch, whose restoration was done by the best masters of Poland. He also lingered near a copy of the sword of Hetman Petro Konashevych Sahaidachnyi and shared his knowledge about the cruiser “Hetman Sahaidachnyi”, on which the sword used to be.

In commemoration of the visit to the cathedral, the general director of the conservation area, Nelia Kukovalska, presented the minister with a book about St. Sophia Cathedral.
