The IX Sudak International Scientific Conference “Black Sea Coast, Crimea, Rus’ in History and Culture” took place in St. Sophia of Kyiv
On September 24 and 25, 2020, the IX Sudak International Scientific Conference “Black Sea Coast, Crimea, Rus’ in History and Culture” was fruitfully held at National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”. We had an opportunity to listen to interesting, relevant for science and informative for all speeches of scientists from Ukraine, Kyiv, National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve and National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”. The conference was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the architect-restorer Olena Lopushynska, who took an active part in the reconstruction and restoration of the monuments of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” – Sudak Fortress in Crimea, the Golden Gate in Kyiv.
The participants of the conference presented remarkable creative achievements and real discoveries in their reports. At the plenary session, Acting Director of the Institute “UkrNDIproektrestavratsiya”, Ph.D. V. Tymkovych and Ph.D. K. Honcharova told about the creative heritage of E. Lopushynska, head of the research department of St. Sophia Institute of National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”, Ph.D., prof. N. Nikitenko made a super interesting study “Volodymyr the Great on the frescoes of Sophia of Kyiv”, senior scientific officer of the Institute of Ukrainian Historiography and Source Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ph.D., prof. I. Prelovska covered a topical issue concerning the Unification Orthodox Church Council of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, head of the sector of complex scientific researches of the research department of St. Sophia Institute of National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”, Ph.D. I. Margolina captivated the audience with her discovery of another mystery of St. Cyril’s Church, related to the relics arranged in the masonry of this monument.
Three sections worked at the conference, where reports on all areas of the reserve’s activity and relevant scientific achievements of other institutions were heard and actively discussed. According to the conference program, 49 reports were presented at sections and 6 at the plenary session.
Summarizing the results of the conference a collection of scientific papers will be published.
