The icon case of XIX century is restored in St. Sophia Cathedral

On February 26, 2020, a presentation of the restored 19th-century wooden carved icon case (kiot) was held at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. It is situated in the southern choirs of the cathedral and housed once the icon of the Kupyatytsky Holy Mother.

The team of National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” is sincerely grateful to everyone who has joined this difficult but extremely important and noble thing! We would like to express our special gratitude to alumni of the program Leader. Road Home 2018/2019» by OLOS-Academy, which provided the funds for the restoration. Thank you for bringing our dreams to life!

Recall that the cathedral has two icon cases. The restoration of the first one (that kept the legendary icon of Nicholas the Wonderworker) took place in January 2018. Funds for its restoration were raised through charity concerts at the Cathedral of the Vienna Opera soloist Victoria Lukyanets.
