Scientific and Restoration Council was held at St. Sophia Cathedral

On January 31, 2020, a meeting of the Scientific and Restoration Council was held at the National Conservation Area St. Sophia of Kyiv, where:

  • the results of a survey of the 19th century monumental painting of the western part of the central nave of St. Sophia Cathedral were discussed and the program of its restoration works was approved;
  • work on the installation of protective transparent structures in the St. Sophia Cathedral over the archaeological probing in the northwestern part of the inner west gallery (1st floor) and over the archaeological probing in the Apostolic chapel of the south outer gallery has been accepted, as well as proposals for further installation of protective structures on probings and ancient painting are also considered;
  • the project of reconstruction of the ancient floor in some sections of the central structure of St. Sophia Cathedral was approved;
  • the restoration work of a wooden carved icon-case, which is stored in the southern choirs of St. Sophia Cathedral, has been accepted.
