Presentation of the full facsimile edition of the Reims Gospel at St. Sophia Cathedral!

On October 22, 2019, the long-awaited presentation of the first full facsimile edition of the Reims Gospel took place at St. Sophia Cathedral!

The Director General of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” Nelia Kukovalska and the Director of the publishing house “Horobets” who jointly worked on this publication as a part of the publishing project “Returning Cultural Heritage to Ukraine”, shared information with the attendees about the difficult way of preparing the facsimile edition of the unique Cyrillic and Glagolitic manuscript of the Reims Gospel, stored in the municipal library of Reims (France).

The book has two volumes. The first volume reproduces the pages of a handwritten monument of both parts – the Cyrillic one of the 11th century and the Glagolitic one of the 14th century, that is, in the form in which it is stored today.

Doctor of Philology, Senior Researcher at the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine Lyudmila Gnatenko and Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University Viktor Moisienko revealed the features of the second volume, which contains the results of modern study of the handwritten monument by Ukrainian scientists (codicological, paleographic, artistic and linguistic (Cyrilliс part) features of the code, history of its creation, existence and study).

The edition was published with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund and at a charitable expense. Patrons that participated in fundraising were invited to the presentation. A significant contribution to the fundraising was made by the star of the world opera stage Victoria Lukyanets with her charity concerts at the Sophia Cathedral, so symbolically the event was ended with her excellent singing.

Thanks again to everyone for Your help in fulfilling our dream!
