Presentation of the book “UNESCO World Heritage in Ukraine”

The presentation of the book “UNESCO World Heritage in Ukraine” by the director of the Vyshhorod Historical and Cultural Reserve, Candidate of Historical Sciences Vlada Lytovchenko took place in the House of the Metropolitan of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”.

It is symbolic that the presentation of this first publication of its kind, dedicated to the history and activities of UNESCO and Ukraine’s participation in the organization, took place in Sophia of Kyiv – one of the most important Christian shrines in Eastern Europe, the first of our country to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The event was attended by the Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine Anatolii Khromov, famous Ukrainian diplomat Valerii Tsybukh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Doctor of History, Professor Borys Humeniuk, Director General of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” Nelia Kukovalska, representatives of scientific institutions, cultural institutions, publishers and journalists.

Vlada Lytovchenko, presenting the book, noted that it is both a popular publication and has a scientific focus. She defended her dissertation on this topic. In particular, the book traces in detail the evolution of UNESCO’s role in the preservation and protection of cultural heritage since 1954, when Ukraine joined the organization. According to the author, the publication will be useful for those who study the history and culture of Ukraine, and may be a special training course.

In her speech, Nelia Kukovalska, Director General of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”, noted Vlada Lytovchenko’s commitment to preserving and promoting our historical and cultural heritage. Our unique monuments are constantly in need of protection, and it is important to ensure it not only to preserve our history, but also for the international image of Ukraine.

UNESCO World Heritage in Ukraine was published as part of a book publishing project dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Book Institute.
