National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” deepens international cooperation
On November 26, 2020, as part of the Weeks of Ukraine in Bavaria, an international scientific video conference “STRONG WOMEN OF THE MIDDLE AGES AND THE IMAGE OF THE NEW EUROPE” was held with the support of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Munich. The conference was initiated and organized by the Institute of Slavic Philology at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich in cooperation with scientific institutions in Germany, Poland and Ukraine.
Scholars from different countries have presented their works on prominent female historical figures, pages of their biographies and the special role of women in European medieval culture.
Scientific research of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” on this topic at the conference was presented by the candidate of historical sciences, international cooperation department head Olena Yasynetska. The scientist reported on the little-known pages of the life of the most famous daughter of Yaroslav the Wise – Queen Anne of France (1028 / 1032‒1075 / 1079), on cultural heritage sites related to her founding activities and Christian values espoused by the Kyivan princess during her life, according to lifetime documents.
After the lecture, the participants were shown a video film dedicated to the history of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv.
