Meeting of the Scientific and Restoration Council No. 1

On May 4, 2023, a meeting of the scientific and restoration council No. 1 of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” was held under the chairmanship of the head of the scientific and restoration workshop of the Conservation Area, artist-restorer of the highest qualification category, Honored Artist of Ukraine Anatolii Ostapchuk. The members of the council approved the programs for the restoration of monumental paintings of the 18th-19th centuries of the altar part of the apostolic aisle in St. Sophia Cathedral (southern gallery of the ground floor).

The Council also accepted the completed restoration work on the restoration of the kerosene lamp of the end of the 19th century from the exposition of the Metropolitan’s Residence museum, a wooden cherub from the burial of Metropolitan Raphail Zaborovskyi (1676-1747) and 13 units of restored projects of architectural graphics.

Among the priority issues, the council considered the scientific report of the head of the department St. Sophia Museum, candidate of historical sciences Ihor Netudykhatkin regarding the Pokrova (Intercession of the Theotokos) icon of the mid-18th century and approved the study of its primary iconographic program.
