Artists-restorers of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” have completed the restoration and installation of ceramic panel by Halyna Sevruk “City on Seven Hills”

The grand opening took place on May 18 at 12.00 in “St. Sophia of Kyiv” on the occasion of the International Museum Day. Also on this day the author of the panel should have celebrated her birthday. Unfortunately, the life of the sculptor-monumentalist, ceramist and painter Halyna Sevruk ended in February 2022. Her son took part in the opening.

The monumental work of the artist found its new home in the Consistory building of the Sophia’s Architectural Ensemble after it was dismantled in October 2020 from the lobby of the Hotel “Tourist”. The composition is placed on the wall of one of the best halls of the recently restored building.

This is the last monumental work of the winner of the Vasyl Stus Ukrainian Association of Independent Creative Intelligentsia Award, Metropolitan Andrii Sheptytskyi Award, Honored Artist of Ukraine Halyna Silvestrivna Sevruk. The panel has a high artistic value. It depicts Princess Olha and Prince Yaroslav the Wise with his daughter Anna – Queen of France, the bird Syryn and other heroes of ancient history of Kyiv.

Artists-restorers of the scientific-restoration workshop of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” under the direction of its head, artist-restorer of the highest qualification category Anatolii Mykolaiovych Ostapchuk, performed a number of restoration works. In particular, fragments of the panel were thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dust. Some of the ceramic elements were damaged and needed bonding. The cover-up of small cracks and cavities on the surface was also carried out in compliance with the texture. After that, each element was toned. And then the panel was mounted on the aforehand prepared wall.
