Exhibition of the art project “Shadows of ancestors. I will be!”
The final exhibition of a large-scale art project by Oleksandra Fedoruk “Shadows of ancestors. I will be!” opened yesterday in the Bakery Exhibition Halls of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”. The exhibition presents paintings and works of art by the author of the project – artist and restorer of Sophia of Kyiv Oleksandra Fedoruk.
The aim of the project is to draw public attention to the problems of preservation of historic buildings in Ukraine.
The paintings from the series “Shadows” are more than fifty female portraits, collective images of Ukrainian women of all times. The works are made in the author’s technique, which combines several types of graphics at the same time.
In the second part of the project “I will be!” nine historical sites were used to exhibit the paintings – in abandoned and deserted castles and palaces of Ukraine. At this stage, artistic photographs were created, which clearly prove the need to preserve and restore historical architecture. At the same time with her works, the artist herself appears in the frame, embodying the connection between the past and the present, between the modern woman and her ancestors.
“We have been dreaming about this exhibition for a long time, more than a year. Pandemics, lockdowns, museum closures got in the way… And here we are! Now you and I can enjoy the work of Oleksandra”, – said Director General of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” Nelia Kukovalska.
The artist thanked Nelia Kukovalska for the comprehensive support of the project and praised her work and presented Sophia of Kyiv with an author’s painting depicting Anna Porphyrogenita – the wife of Volodymyr the Great.
Within the project “Shadows of ancestors. I will be!” planned author’s excursions, musical events, creative activities, performances and lectures.
