December 3 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities
On December 3, each year, together with the world community, Ukraine celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
This date is a day of summing up what has been done for this category of citizens.
National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” works every day to ensure that people with special needs have free access to objects, sites, activities of the Reserve, etc. And symbolically today we would like to share with you the latest news in this sphere!
On November 28-29, the employees of the Preserve visited the Kharkiv Regional Council Public Institution «Kharkiv Special School named after Volodymyr Korolenko», where children with visual impairments study.
This summer already, a cooperation agreement was signed between the museum and the school to develop and implement museum services for the visually impaired. The result of this collaboration was the development by the specialists of the Preserve of the educational and cognitive program “The Wise Kingdom of Sharleman: Beasts known and unknown”, adapted for children with visual impairments.
For two days at the Museum of the History of the educational complex named after Volodymyr Korolenko all classes from 1st to 12th had the opportunity to learn more about St. Sophia Cathedral, to hold mock-ups and other tactile materials (smalt, fragments of frescoes, marble pieces, slate, etc.), to hear sounds and audio description that supplemented the story. And what was the value of communicating with students and teachers, warm words and feedbacks from new friends! We thank the Deputy Director of Educational Affairs Andriy Orlov and the Head of the Institute Museum of History Anna Petrykina for the experience gained during the lessons, recommendations, tips and hospitality!
