Excursion “Rus-Ukraine in the family circle of Europe”

European orientation has always been the cornerstone of Ukrainian independence, which the country is still courageously fighting for. How long has the history of Ukraine been intertwined with European history thanks to “marriage diplomacy” and what were the “fruits” of these unions? What historical events illustrate the secular frescoes of St. Sophia Cathedral and what are the ancient inscriptions on the walls of the church? Which of the descendants of the Kyivan princes took part in the First Crusade, and to whom did the Norwegian king dedicate an ode of love? You will learn about this and other things during the exclusive tour “Rus-Ukraine in the family circle of Europe”.

Ceramic panel “City on Seven Hills” by Halyna Sevruk review

 

Heroes of the ancient history of Kyiv are uniquely and talentedly represented by Honored Artist of Ukraine Halyna Sevruk in her latest monumental work – “City on Seven Hills”, which decorated the lobby of the capital’s hotel “Tourist”, but was dismantled in 2020.

However, the unique ceramic panel found a new “residence” in the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”, where it was carefully restored by professional artists-restorers and installed this year in the Consistory building.

On the occasion of the Kyiv Day we invite everyone to get acquainted with this unique work at 12.00, 14.00 and 16.00 p.m.

Excursion “Monastery Gardens”

We invite you to walk through the estate of the former Kyiv-Sophia Monastery and listen to a story about the garden and park culture of the 17th-18th centuries, the range of garden plantations, their importance in the life of the inhabitants and current plants planted according to traditions.

Bring notebooks for some recipes to share.

Open-air inter-museum quest “Guardians of History”

We invite you to celebrate the Kyiv Day together with the National Museum of History of Ukraine and the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”. We have prepared a big quest in the center of our beloved Kyiv!

An exciting adventure awaits you, during which you will visit six museum locations, visit the memorable historical sites of Kyiv, see some of its most beautiful landscapes and become true Guardians of History.

 

Start at 13:00.

Excursion “Heavenly Patron of Kyiv – Archangel Michael”.

The thematic tour is dedicated to the tradition of Archangel Michael honoring in Rus-Ukraine from the time of the adoption of Christianity to modern times.

Archangel Michael has been revered since ancient times as the heavenly defender of the army and the patron saint of Kyiv, as the coat of arms of the capital eloquently illustrates. One of the altars of St. Sophia of Kyiv is dedicated to Archangel Michael, and unique mosaics and frescoes from the 12th century from St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral are preserved in the choirs of the cathedral. You will also learn about another image of the archangel – one of the three who “held heaven and grace” over Kyiv for centuries.
