A scientific and musical tour starts in the Cathedral of “St. Sophia of Kyiv”
Today the team of the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv” together with the General Director Nelia Kukovalska were the first to take the route of the musical tour “St. Sophia’s carol”, which was developed and presented by the head of the St. Sophia Museum, Candidate of Historical Sciences Ihor Netudykhatkin.
Mr. Netudykhatkin was inspired by Ivan Franko’s “St. Sofia’s Carol” published in 1889. The great writer called Christmas “the most poetic holiday of the Slavs, and of all Christian nations.” Symbolic images encoded in the text of the carol attracted attention and were the subject of scientific controversy of the true giants of the Ukrainian spirit – Ivan Franko, Mykhailo Drahomanov and Mykhailo Hrushevskyi. “St. Sofia’s carol is the only one of its kind and deserves special attention!” Hrushevskyi stressed.
The tour includes a story about how Christmas was celebrated in St. Sophia of Kyiv, as well as a visit to the Metropolitan House Museum and St. Sophia Cathedral. The participants listened to the “St. Sophia’s Carol”, which was sung in the Sophia Monastery in the 17th century, performed by the brother of the Kyiv Kobzar Workshop, lyre player Yarema (Vadym Shevchuk), who works as a restorer in the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv”.
